What is field testing and why is it conducted?
Field testing is a development process which allows Reach Robotics to collect valuable information and data on our products completing a range of tasks in different environments. It is the best way to put ourselves into the shoes of our customers and test our technology in real-world environments. This enables us to identify where unexpected issues may arise, thoroughly test the performance of a product and use this feedback to enhance its capabilities.
Collecting data from our products
One of the most critical questions our team is looking to answer during each field test is: Can the user utilise the manipulator for their desired outcome in the most efficient and reliable way?
Testing our arms in an external environment can reveal flaws that were previously unidentified, allowing our Research & Development Team to review the data and implement solutions for future iterations. This data can pertain to the specific features of our technology, or its ability to withstand environmental disturbances. Not only does the field test process provide valuable feedback on a manipulator’s ability to accomplish its predetermined goal, but also the intuitive nature of the whole system. Field testing allows our team to gain first-hand experience with our range of products, and refine the operator experience enabling a better integrated system overall.
Future improvements
The results and data we gather from field testing is processed to identify any parts or functionalities of the system that are not working as expected so that they can be addressed. All data points are documented into our backlog, which is then used to improve the function and logistics of our systems, and produce further enhancements for our product line.
